To address this issue, Suzhou City was expected to provide a more secure and efficient means of payment to local residents and merchants through the digitization of the local currency.

Pearl City and Hokkoku Bank solved the problem by implementing the following solution.

  • Introduction of distributed ID issuance platform "SHIKI

    Unique IDs are issued to each user to ensure transaction transparency. Realization of tampering prevention of transaction data.

  • Utilization of KAN, a deposit-type stable coin

    Adopted as a means of payment within the region as a digital currency with a stable price. The use of stable coins speeds up transactions and improves security.

  • Operation of the digital local currency "Suzu Tochituka

    Issuance and distribution of the local currency "Suzu Tochipo" and "Suzu Tochika". Promotion of cashless payment at member stores in the region.

The digital local currency service "Suzu Tochituka" will be available in Suzu City from the summer of 2023.

Future Outlook

Together with Hokkoku Bank, we aim to make it possible to purchase JPYC's fund transfer business type stable coin "JPYC" using the deposit type stable coin "TOCHICA". In addition, JPYC aims to reduce time and fees by enabling exchange to various electronic payment methods at the stablecoin exchange to be established by JPYC, and to enable transactions with electronic payment methods in Japan and abroad.

This case study demonstrates how the use of the decentralized ID issuance platform "SHIKI" and the deposit-type stable coin "KAN" can contribute to the digitization of local currencies and the revitalization of the local economy. The partnership between Suzhou City and Hokkoku Bank has resulted in a secure and transparent payment system that contributes to increased productivity and sustainable economic development throughout the region.

This case study is an example of how "TicketMe" leveraged our distributed ID technology to address the problem of ticket fraud resale. We were able to provide healthy growth for the entire event industry and a fair marketplace for creators and legitimate purchasers.

In order to address these issues, Ishikawa Prefecture had been working to create a comfortable living and working environment by building a data collaboration infrastructure in cooperation with the public and private sectors to provide a variety of digital services to its residents in order to achieve "the highest level of happiness in Japan.

Future Outlook

We plan to implement a function to link the "Ishikawa ID" with IDs issued in other regions, aiming to strengthen linkage with digital services in and out of the prefecture. Further possibilities for use of our SHIKI include the granting of digital citizenship to foreign tourists by verifying their identity with the SHIKI application and granting them a digital citizenship card, and linking the information on their driver's license to MaaS services by converting it into VC (Verifiable Credentials). The SHIKI app can also be used to provide digital citizenship to tourists.

This case study describes how Ishikawa Prefecture has realized the development of a secure and convenient digital service environment for local residents by introducing the distributed ID "SHIKI" using electronic certificates from the Public Personal Identification Service. Efforts are underway to improve the well-being of the prefecture's residents, and the foundation is in place for the future provision of personalized services.
